8 Essential parts of a drone that you need to know today
To build or understand, we should know the essential parts of a drone. There are several drone concepts in the market, but the most popular concept is a quadcopter with four rotors. The quadcopter is subdivided into two parts based on the motor type, one is a quadcopter with a brushless dc motor, and another one is a quadcopter with a brushed dc motor.
Most drones now use bldc motors, but some micro and nano-category drones still use brushed dc motors.
Essential Parts of a drone: Brushed DC motor
- Flight Controller
- Communication Module
- Brushed dc motor driver
- Brushed DC motor
- Battery
- Propeller
- Drone Frame
- Remote Controller
Essential Parts of a drone: Brush Less DC motor
- Flight Controller
- Communication Module
- BLDC (Brushless DC motor)
- ESC (Electronic speed controller)
- Battery
- Propeller
- Drone Frame
- Remote Controller
The flight Controller
It is the central Brain of the drone. It consists of a microcontroller, accelerometer, gyroscope, electronic compass and several small electronic components.
Communication Module:
It is a module that helps to establish communication between the remote controller and the Flight Controller
Brushed DC motor driver:
It is an H bridge electronic circuit that helps to run a brushed DC motor efficiently. The PWM signal from the microcontroller mainly controls the speed.
ESC:
ESC is the controller for the BLDC motor. It can also control the speed of the motor using the same PWM method.
These eight components are the fundamental blocks to flying and controlling a drone. Several other modules are also present to increase the drone’s overall functionality.
Some other parts are
- GPS module: using the GPS module, we can fly and operate drone depending on the location data.
- Obstacle avoidance sensor: Using this sensor drone can fly and land safely
- Barometer: Using this sensor drone can measure the altitude based on the air pressure
- Camera: Using a camera, we can capture images and video and save or transmit them to the receiver
